Silver & Gold Wearable Holiday Makeup!

One of my favorite Christmas shows as a child was Rudolph and I always loved the song the snowman narrator sings called “Silver & Gold”.  I also always get this song stuck in my head and as I was singing it the other day I thought that silver & gold would be a great holiday makeup look because I have seen many silver looks, and many gold looks, but not lots of them use both.

So today I created a very wearable silver & gold holiday look and because I got a new camera this weekend, I actually made a youtube video tutorial for it!  YAY!  I also purchased some glitters from Lit Cosmetics this weekend, so when they get here, I will do version 2 (the less wearable version more for New Years Eve) of this look using them!

Anyway, lets get to it!  Here is version 1:

Tarte Fantastic Foursome Blush Enthusiast Set

I have always heard wonderful things about Tarte blushes.  It seems that even makeup guru’s who use nothing else Tarte brand rave about Tarte’s Amazonian Clay blushes!  Now I know why…

I had been wanting to try them out and had them on my Christmas wish list, but when I saw that Tarte came out with this limited edition set of four new shades, I couldn’t wait!

It comes in this beautiful package perfect for gift giving:

here they are all opened up:

and here they are swatched on my arm:

I have heard a few people complain about this set because all the colors are not blush colors – Angelic is a nice highlight color, and Stellar is a bronzer or contour color.  To me, that makes this set even more desirable.  This way, you can actually use 3 of colors on your face at once (all four if you blend Fantastic & Magic together for your blush).

If you have never tried Tarte blush, you should!  It is so pigmented & blendable!  A little goes a long way, which means you don’t hit pan very quickly.  (So who cares that The Fantastic Foursome are not the standard full size?) Plus, as with all Tarte products, they are formulated without parabens, phthalates and synthetic fragrances, which is why Tarte is one of my very favorite brands!

Have you tried Tarte blush before?  What is your favorite blush?  Let me know in the comments below!

All About Brows!

I think almost all women have seen and know about brow defining pencils.  Many women of my generation grew up watching their mom “put her brows on” using this method.  I know I did!  I think that may be one of the reasons so many women my age do not use any brow definer – they think it is only for “old” women, and/or women who have little to no brow hair.  I, myself, thought this for a long time – until I tried defining my brows and saw how much it improved my overall appearance!

With that said, it can still be a bit of a process figuring out which brow defining method is the best for you.  Do you want very dramatcally defined brows, or a more natural looking brow?  Either way, your brow can be defined using the old standard brow pencil, or a plethora of other products.  The picture below shows my eye with some of the products I have tried.

Of course the first ever brow definer I tried was a pencil. It was ok, but I wanted to try and find something more natural looking. That led me to the Tarte brow mousse. For quite a while, I LOVED this brow look. I still do when I am wearing a very dramatic eye shadow look. However, when I am wearing a more neutral look, I felt this brow look could be a bit harsh and the focus became my brow, instead of my eye, which was NOT what I wanted. So I decided to try a brow shadow. I am kind of an odd ball, in that I have rather dark hair and rather light skin. This made it a bit tricky to find a shadow color that matched my hair color while not appearing too dark on my light skin. That is why I tried mixing some BFTE brown shadows.
Then, the other day, as I was browsing Milani products at the store (they were on sale!), I noticed they had a felt tipped brow tint pen.  I was intrigued, and since it was on sale, I decided to try it!  I am so glad that I did!  It is now my new favorite definer for neutral looks! I feel it really does define well, and even fills in my sparse areas without looking fake, and the color is not too dark, nor too light.  LOVE, love, love it!

What is your favorite brow product?  Do you like natural or dramatic looking brows, or like me, do you like both depending on the overall look?  Which of these products above do you like best on me??  Let me know in the comments below!

L.A. Colors Color Craze Extreme Brights Collection Review

I was at T.J. Maxx (have I told you I LOVE that place?!?!) the other night and had already been through all the beauty dept. and made my way over to toys to meet up with my husband and 3 year old son.  As I turned the corner, along with the disney princess makeup sets was this:

I began drooling immediately!  Look at those colors!  They are sooo me!  I personally do not understand why T.J. Maxx thinks these belong only in the children’s dept.  I know I am not the only adult women who loves to rock bright colors like these!  In fact, China Glaze came out with a very similar collection of colors this past spring called Electro Pop!

I believe their 6 bottle collection retailed at $42 or you could buy the individual bottles for $7 each….. This L.A. Colors collection of 7 bottles cost me just $6.99!!!!  The colors are obviously not exactly the same as the China Glaze Electro Pop, but still…  I think I actually like the L.A. Colors set better, and would argue that they are much more “electro” than the China Glaze ones.

Anyway, the first question you probably have is –  Is L.A. Colors a good polish?  Let me tell you, I love them!  First of all, they are DBA, toluene, and formaldehyde free AND they are a cruelty free company (As far as I know, China Glaze is all those things as well)!!  Plus, they are extremely affordable!  You can find them at Dollar Stores (Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Family Dollar) and other discount stores.

To show you the quality of them as much as possible, here is what they look like with a single coat:

and here is with a second coat:

AND here (on my gracious hubby’s nails because I ran out of nails LOL) is the pink color from this L.A. Colors set next to Pool Party by China Glaze (a single coat of each):

and last of all I shall show you each individual color on my nails:

The two purple colors are very similar, but one is just a tad darker.

So it pretty much goes without saying that I adore this nail polish collection and I highly recommend you high tail it to your local T.J. Maxx to see if they also have it to get one for yourself.  Otherwise, you can check your local dollar stores to see if they have any of the colors OR you can shop online here!  L.A. Colors also makes all kinds of makeup.  I need to check out their ingredients and try them out again, as it has been a while since I have had/used any of their makeup.

Hope you all enjoyed this review!  Do you also like to wear bright colors?  Which of these colors is your fav?  Let me know in the comments below!

Geek Chic Cosmetics Mini-Review

My darling hubby bought me a couple mineral eyeshadows from Geek Chic Cosmetics.  I tried them out today and thought I would share my first impressions and give sort of a mini-review.   The 2 colors I have are Blood Wine and As You Wish.  Here they are swatched:

They are nicely pigmented and go on very smoothly.  I would say they are of equal quality as BFTE, and the colors are beautiful!  They do not have as much selection as BFTE, but they are a smaller company.  I do not like Geek Chic’s packaging as much as BFTE’s.  All their shadows are part of a collection and the top of the jars have a sticker with the collection name on them.  Take a look at mine sitting next to a BFTE jar:

I do not like being unable to see the shadow color through the jar.  BFTE has their logo stamped on the top of their lids, but there is still plenty of space to see the shadow.

Even on their sides, the Geek Chic jar clarity is not as nice as BFTE’s.  However, Geek Chic is $5.99/jar and BFTE is $6.50.  50 cents isn’t really a big deal to me, but it does all add up.  It is worth mentioning also, that Geek Chic also offers glitters, lipsticks (called Joysticks!), lip glosses, and lipbalms in some awesome colors that I can’t wait to try soon!  They even have Alcohol free soild perfumes called “Solid Scents”.  Everything they sell is created by them (they never re-package!) and all their products are cruelty free, gluten free, paraben free, and Vegan (expect the joysticks & biobalms b/c they have beeswax in them).  Parabens aren’t a big deal to many people, but I actively seek paraben free products, and while they are getting more common, they still can be difficult to find.  Geek Chic is a small home based business, and when you order something, it is made fresh for you, usually within a week, and then mailed out, because they do not have the room to store tons of pre-made product.  This means you may have to wait a bit longer for your order than some other places, but at least you know your lipgloss hasn’t been sitting around in a fullfillment warehouse for months.

With all that said, I am super excited to try more of their products! You can check them out at www.geekchiccosmetics.com!

Here is the look I created using As You Wish & Blood Wine:

I used Blood Wine on the lid & As You Wish in the crease, and BFTE’s Full Moon Rising as a highlight color.  I then used Urban Decay 24/7 pencil in Ransom to line the top and lower lashline, and Rimmel Exaggerate Liner in Purple Shock on the waterline.

I completed my look using Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation in 4.0, Revlon Beyond Natural Blush & Bronzer in Nude, and Urban Decay lipstick in Confession.

Wearable Fall Colors!

I made a look today using some pretty fall colors from BFTE.  I say this look is wearable, although many would probably want to majorly tone down the dramatic liner I did.  You know me, I always go dramatic.  haha!  Anyway, here is the look:

The lid color looks kind of orangeish here, but in reality it is gold. I tried to adjust the fill light and whatnot to get it to look more true to life, but it just wasn’t happening.  I think its time for a new camera.

Also, I wanted to share a picture of me with this look while wearing my glasses.  I have lots of people tell me that they do not bother with much eye makeup because they wear glasses and nobody can see it anyways.  I know that does happen to a certain extent, and some frames are worse about than others.  However, I wear my glasses pretty much all the time and let me just say – people certainly still notice my eye makeup.

Makeup I used for this look:

Eyes:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
BFTE Autumn
BFTE Silver Maple
BFTE Guilty Pleasures
BFTE Full Moon Rising
Prestige Liquid Liner in Black
Maybelline Volum’ Express Colossal Mascara

Face:
Tarte Amazonian Clay Smooth Operator Illuminating Serum
Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Full Coverage Foundation in Ivory
Revlon Beyond Natural Blush & Bronzer in Nude

Lips:
Clinique Chubby Stick in Mega Melon
